WEBSITE TERMS OF USE AND PRIVACY POLICY
Last updated: 30 July 2026
These Terms of Use and Privacy Policy apply to the ProtectYourGoods website,
accounts and related services operated by Adrian Stott Pty Ltd
(“ProtectYourGoods”, “we”, “us” or “our”).
ProtectYourGoods allows authorised users to record, search, manage and communicate
information about goods and associated accounts. The service is not a government,
police, legal, insurance, valuation, ownership-verification or stolen-property
database, and it does not guarantee recovery, title, authenticity or lawful ownership.
Important:
You must only upload, enter, search or disclose information that you are legally
authorised to provide. Do not upload identity documents, payment-card information,
medical information, intimate images, passwords, access codes or other unnecessary
sensitive information.
1. Acceptance of these terms
-
By accessing the website, creating an account or using a ProtectYourGoods service,
you agree to these Terms of Use and acknowledge the privacy practices described below.
-
If you use the service on behalf of a business, government body or other organisation,
you represent that you have authority to bind that organisation.
-
If you do not agree, you must not use the website or services.
-
We may update these terms when our services, suppliers or legal obligations change.
The updated version will be published on this page with a revised “Last updated” date.
Material changes may also be notified through the website or by email where appropriate.
2. Eligibility and accounts
-
You must be at least 18 years old and capable of entering a legally binding agreement
to create or control an account, unless we expressly approve another arrangement.
-
You must provide accurate, current and complete registration information and update it
when it changes.
-
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and
for activity occurring through your account.
-
You must promptly notify us if you believe an account or password has been compromised.
-
We may require email verification, account activation or reasonable identity,
business or authority checks before enabling particular functions.
-
We may suspend, restrict or close an account where reasonably necessary to protect
users, investigate misuse, comply with law, maintain security or enforce these terms.
3. Permitted use
-
You may use ProtectYourGoods only for lawful purposes connected with recording,
managing, identifying, searching or communicating information about goods and accounts
that you are authorised to access.
-
You must ensure that information you submit is accurate to the best of your knowledge
and is not misleading, defamatory, unlawful, threatening, discriminatory, fraudulent
or infringing of another person’s rights.
-
You must not impersonate another person, falsely claim ownership or authority, make a
false report, misuse search functions, harass another person, or use information
obtained through the service for unlawful surveillance, intimidation or retaliation.
-
You must not attempt to bypass access controls, probe security, introduce malware,
overload the service, scrape data, reverse engineer restricted components, automate
queries without permission or access another user’s information.
-
You must not upload an image or document containing information about another person
unless you have a lawful basis and appropriate authority to do so.
4. User-submitted information
-
You retain any rights you hold in information and images you submit.
-
You grant us a non-exclusive, limited licence to host, copy, process, transmit,
display and otherwise handle submitted material only as reasonably required to
operate, secure, support and improve the service, comply with law and enforce these terms.
-
You are responsible for reviewing extracted or automatically populated information.
Optical character recognition and other automated extraction may misread serial numbers,
names, model numbers or other text. You must correct errors before relying on or saving
the information.
-
We may remove, quarantine or restrict material that we reasonably believe is unlawful,
unsafe, inaccurate, abusive, technically harmful or contrary to these terms.
5. Search results, alerts and communications
-
Search results and alerts depend on information entered by users and may be incomplete,
delayed, duplicated, inaccurate or out of date.
-
A match does not by itself prove ownership, theft, fraud, illegality or the identity
of any person. Users must make appropriate independent checks and, where relevant,
contact police, a lawyer, an insurer or another qualified authority.
-
Email and SMS messages may be delayed, filtered, blocked, misdirected or unavailable.
You must not rely on an alert as the sole method of protecting property, meeting a legal
obligation or responding to an emergency.
-
Transactional messages may include account activation, password reset, security,
service, search or item-related notices. Marketing messages, if any, will be handled
in accordance with applicable Australian law and available unsubscribe requirements.
6. Availability and changes to the service
-
We aim to keep the service available but do not guarantee uninterrupted, error-free or
permanent access.
-
Access may be affected by maintenance, security events, internet failures, hosting
outages, telecommunications providers, supplier changes, legal requirements or events
outside our reasonable control.
-
We may add, alter, restrict, suspend or discontinue functions where reasonably required.
Where practical, we will provide notice of a material reduction or discontinuation.
7. Intellectual property
-
The website, branding, software, layout, graphics, text and other content supplied by
us are owned by us or licensed to us and are protected by applicable intellectual
property laws.
-
We grant you a limited, revocable, non-transferable right to access and use the service
for its intended purpose.
-
Except as permitted by law or with our written consent, you must not reproduce,
republish, distribute, sell, commercially exploit, frame, mirror or create derivative
works from our protected material.
8. Third-party services and links
-
The service depends on external suppliers, which may include cloud and server hosts,
database and backup providers, Google image-processing or optical character recognition
services, SMS gateways and telecommunications networks, SMTP and email-delivery
providers, domain and security providers, analytics, logging and technical-support tools.
-
These suppliers operate under their own terms, privacy notices, security arrangements
and service limitations. We choose and manage suppliers with reasonable care but do not
control every aspect of their networks or operations.
-
Links to external websites are provided for convenience. A link does not necessarily
mean that we endorse or control the linked site.
9. Australian Consumer Law
-
Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any guarantee, right or remedy
that cannot lawfully be excluded under the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth),
including the Australian Consumer Law, or other applicable legislation.
-
Where the Australian Consumer Law applies, services come with non-excludable consumer
guarantees, which may include that services will be provided with due care and skill,
will be reasonably fit for a disclosed purpose and will be supplied within a reasonable
time where no time is fixed.
10. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
-
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the service and user-submitted information are
provided on an “as available” basis. We do not guarantee that any record, match,
extracted text, alert or user-provided statement is complete, accurate or suitable for
a particular decision.
-
We are not responsible for transactions, disputes or communications between users,
or for acts or omissions of a user or unrelated third party.
-
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we exclude liability for indirect,
consequential or special loss, loss of opportunity, loss of profit, loss of goodwill
or loss caused by reliance on inaccurate user-supplied or automatically extracted data.
-
Where liability cannot be excluded but may lawfully be limited, our liability will be
limited, at our option, to supplying the relevant services again or paying the reasonable
cost of having the services supplied again.
-
Nothing in this section limits liability where doing so would be unlawful.
11. Indemnity
-
To the extent permitted by law, you are responsible for loss, claims or reasonable
costs arising from your unlawful use of the service, your material breach of these terms,
or content you submit that infringes another person’s rights.
-
This clause does not require you to indemnify us for loss caused by our negligence,
wilful misconduct or breach of law.
12. Termination and account closure
-
You may request closure of your account by contacting us through the website.
-
We may suspend or terminate access where reasonably necessary because of serious or
repeated breach, unlawful activity, security risk, non-verifiable authority, technical
necessity or a legal requirement.
-
After closure, we may retain limited information where reasonably required for backup
cycles, security, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, legal compliance or the
establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims.
13. Governing law
-
These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia.
-
Subject to any non-excludable rights concerning jurisdiction, the parties submit to the
courts of New South Wales and courts entitled to hear appeals from them.
-
If part of these terms is invalid or unenforceable, it will be read down to the minimum
extent necessary or severed, without affecting the remaining provisions.
PRIVACY POLICY
This Privacy Policy explains how Adrian Stott Pty Ltd handles personal information through
ProtectYourGoods. We aim to follow the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), the Australian Privacy

information, session identifiers, timestamps, access logs, error logs, usage limits,
security events and audit information.
-
Image-processing information: images selected by a user, cropped image
areas, extracted text and related request metadata where an OCR or image-processing
function is used.
15. How we collect information
- Directly from you when you register, enter records, upload images, search or contact us.
- From an organisation or authorised user who creates or manages an account or record.
- Automatically through server logs, cookies, sessions and security systems.
- From service providers involved in hosting, authentication, messaging, email, image processing, logging or support.

its contract and applicable law. We seek to disclose only information reasonably necessary
for the service being provided.
18. Overseas processing and disclosure
-
Some service providers or their infrastructure may be located outside Australia, and
information may be processed or stored in countries where those providers or their
subcontractors operate.
-
Depending on the suppliers and routing in use, overseas locations may include the
United States and other countries in the Asia-Pacific region, Europe or elsewhere.
The precise location may change as suppliers update their infrastructure.
-
Where Australian Privacy Principle 8 applies, we will take reasonable steps required
by law before disclosing personal information to an overseas recipient.
-
You may contact us for current information about significant provider categories and
known overseas processing locations relevant to your information.
19. Image processing and data extraction
-
When you choose to use an image-reading function, the selected image or cropped region
may be transmitted securely to an external image-processing provider, including Google,
for the purpose of detecting and returning text.
-
Do not photograph or submit more information than is required. Position or crop the
image so that only the relevant serial number, model number or short text is included.
-
Extracted text may be inaccurate. You are responsible for checking and correcting it.
-
Our own retention of captured images depends on how the particular feature is
implemented. Unless the website expressly states that an image will be saved as part
of a goods record, the image should be treated as submitted for processing rather than
permanent record storage. Technical logs or temporary files may remain for limited
security, processing or backup periods.
-
The external provider’s handling is also governed by its contractual data-processing
and security terms.
20. Cookies, sessions and logs
-
We may use cookies or similar session technologies that are necessary for login,
security, preferences and operation of the website.
-
Disabling necessary cookies may prevent the website from working correctly.
-
Server, application and security logs may record IP addresses, timestamps, pages,
requests, account identifiers, errors and suspicious activity.
21. Data security
-
We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect personal information
from misuse, interference, loss and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure.
-
Measures may include access controls, password hashing, encrypted connections, account
verification, logging, backups, supplier controls, software updates and monitoring.
-
No internet, email, SMS, server or storage system is completely secure. You should use
a strong, unique password and protect access to your devices and email account.
22. Data breaches
-
We will assess suspected data breaches and take reasonable steps to contain and
remediate them.
-
Where the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme applies and an eligible data breach occurs,
we will notify affected individuals and the Office of the Australian Information
Commissioner as required by law.
23. Retention and deletion
-
We retain personal information for as long as reasonably required for account and
service operation, security, backups, dispute handling, legal compliance and legitimate
business administration.
-
Retention periods vary according to the type of information, the account status,
technical backup cycles and legal requirements.
-
When information is no longer required and no legal basis requires retention, we will
take reasonable steps to delete it or de-identify it.
-
Deletion from active systems may not immediately remove information from encrypted or
rotating backups. Backup copies will ordinarily expire through the applicable backup cycle.
24. Access and correction
-
You may request access to personal information we hold about you or ask us to correct
inaccurate, out-of-date, incomplete, irrelevant or misleading information.
-
We may need to verify your identity and authority before providing access or making a
change.
-
Access may be refused or limited where permitted by law, including where disclosure
would unreasonably affect another person’s privacy or reveal security-sensitive information.
25. Privacy complaints
-
You may make a privacy enquiry or complaint through the ProtectYourGoods contact page.
Please provide enough information for us to understand and investigate the issue.
-
We will acknowledge and respond within a reasonable period. We may request identity
verification or further details.
-
If you are not satisfied with our response and the Privacy Act applies, you may be
entitled to complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
